The story of AV SOFTBALL is the story of it's owner & founder, Al Acosta.

Al was an outstanding baseball player for Bonita High School in La Verne, CA., where he received All-CIF honors.    Al was also an All-Pomona Valley player.  Both the California Angels and Cinncinati Reds wanted to draft Al, but he had already committed to become a member of the United States Marine Corp.    Later, Al became an accomplished slowpitch softball player reaching the heights of upper division play in California.   His team was once crowned California State Champions.   At every stage of his life, Al has loved and been close to baseball & softball.

In 1997, Al organized and ran a  small church softball league.  Soon, he began to run small church-only tournaments.   But non-church teams kept bugging Al to let them play also.     After  having also been a Tournament Director and Umpire for other SoCal tournament organizations,   Al began to see a business opportunity and in January of 2000, AV was born.

Starting small & learning every step of the way,   Al grew AV SOFTBALL into, what is today, an icon tournament organization in SoCal.   AV  consistently packs in teams for it's tournaments whether they're being played in SoCal, Nevada or anywhere else.

People frequently ask what AV stands for.   "A" is for Al, which you probably figured out.   The "V" is for "Vida", which is Spanish for "life".    That gives us  "AV":   "Al's life"    Al chose the name because he has  lived his life around baseball & softball.   It felt appropriate to use that name for his organization because it was not just a job;  AV SOFTBALL  is very much, Al's life.    Al loves and remains dedicated to the game itself;   a game that has now become a successful business.

The goal of AV SOFTBALL tournaments is to provide teams with competitive, reasonably priced and properly run tournaments at the best facilities in Southern California.  AV  is dedicated to finding the best umpires and  creating a great environment for a competitive softball experience.  At AV,  "We Know Softball "  is more than a slogan;  it 's who we are.

For many years, Al Acosta and AV SOFTBALL have put on "Toys 4 the Needy" tournaments each holiday season.  Perhaps there are people who believe that the toys collected at these tournaments are just dropped off at the nearest Salvation Army.  But Al takes the job much more seriously.  He doesn't just deliver the toys direct to the kids, he does it not as "Al", but as the man himself;  Santa Clause.

Below are great examples of what happens to the toys AV SOFTBALL collects at these tournaments each season.  As you can see by the looks on the kids faces, they are thrilled & over joyed.   These are kids that do not have the good fortune that many others do and this makes a positive difference in their lives.   These pictures will hopefully demonstrate to you how,  what may seem to some to be an inexpensive toy, can bring joy and a smile to kids who do not have another Santa in their lives.

Thank you, to all the teams who play in AV SOFTBALL "Toys 4 the Needy" tournaments each holiday season.  Your contributions are appreciated more than you may know.
